A Balanced cuisine - Thai cuisine
The Thai cuisine is a world-famous cuisine which is on the “World's 50 Best Foods” list with the most food varieties among all cuisines.
The Thai cuisine was influenced by the Indian, Chinese and even Portuguese cuisines throughout history - yet it has created an authentic identity with the values obtained from these cultures and is very different from all its neighboring countries. Although the same ingredients as Southeast Asia, such as hot pepper, garlic, ginger, lemongrass, fish sauce and lime are being used, the flavors used in the Thai cuisine are distinctive.
Flavours that stand out with their aromatic and spicy properties are prepared by paying attention to detail, texture, colors, and the use of healthy ingredients. Care is also taken to ensure that the food has a pleasant appearance and smell.
The most important feature of the Thai cuisine is balance. Each Thai food is prepared to contain 5 different tastes: salty, sweet, sour, bitter and spicy. And most importantly, all of these flavors are being tremendously balanced with each other. Fresh herbs such as lemongrass and galangal, which have pungent flavors, suppress strong spices. Salty sauces are being balanced with flavors such as sugar or lemongrass.
Thai cuisine is thus not as heavy as the Indian cuisine for example, but also not as simple as the Japanese cuisine. It is a harmonious cuisine that stands between these two.
The most invariable element among the Thai meals is of course, rice. Fried or steamed rice always accompanies the meals. Rice is so important that not even a single grain of rice is being wasted. Vegetables, fish and meat varieties are combined with colorful and rich ingredients such as tamarind, coconut milk, Thai hot pepper, garlic, peanuts, lemongrass and lime in the main dishes.
