Thai Desserts for Special Occasions

Thai Desserts for Special Occasions

Thailand is a Buddhist country and the number of celebrations throughout the year is quite high. Have you ever wondered which desserts accompany Thai tables on these special occasions?

The Thai cuisine is known for being elaborate and it’s no surprise that its desserts are special, too.

The most important dessert consumed on special occasions is “Foi thong”. Foi thong has a symbolic meaning and it is pretty elaborate like all Thai dishes. A mixture consisting of egg yolks is prepared as thin threads and fried in sugar syrup. This dessert, which gets a golden color when fried, literally means “golden thread”. Foi thong is believed to give a long life and bring luck to those who eat it. It’s served as a sign of giving warm wishes on special occasions, especially at weddings.

Desserts are used all over the world to make the beautiful days even more memorable. While Thai people end their meals with fruits on regular days, desserts are being served on special occasions. These desserts fall into two categories. Desserts such as cakes called ”Kanom" and liquid desserts like banana or coconut milk…

If you’d like to serve “Thai Kanoms" for your own special occasions, you can start with
